Qantas American Express Ultimate Card Guide

Below is the Video Transcript:

Hi guys Jake here from Point Hacks and welcome to hacked, the show which helps you maximise the benefits of your credit card and allows you to enjoy the premium perks that you otherwise wouldn’t have known about. As well as this, we will help you make informed decisions by keeping you firmly in the loop when it comes to fees and charges. So today we are going to be reviewing the Qantas American Express Ultimate card.

What if I told you that this shiny frankly delightful credit card from Qantas American Express gives you passes to exclusive opportunities that you otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. Such as American Express and Qantas lounges, premium membership to the Qantas wine club. And travel insurance. Calm down Jake. Don’t mind him is a little excitable but yes if you’re anything like me and do a lot of interstate and overseas travel and insurance slips your mind, this card has got you covered. One of the first things that struck us about this card was it is one of the highest earning Qantas point cards available with a standard earn rate of 1.25 points on eligible purchases, plus earn 2.25 Qantas points per $1 on selected Qantas products and services.

All this comes with no points earn cap, so as a user of this card you can earn and collect points on every dollar you spend. Giving you enough points to fly business class to destinations like Bali, Tokyo, Fiji and Singapore. Not too shabby right? Now when you’re waiting for that connecting flight there’s nothing worse than fighting for the last plug socket to charge your phone or the last seat of the gate. Well something you’ll love about this card is those two Qantas Club Lounge passes and two American Express lounge invites. Yes, that’s four flights a year that you can indulge yourself in spacious luxury. All the charging points you could ask for, free bar, free Wi-Fi with delicious complimentary food. And with premium membership to the Qantas wine club, you can treat yourself to those fine wines that you wouldn’t normally think to buy often at a reduced cost. Perfect for impressing Jessica’s Dad at the BBQ next weekend. Ok, I’ll come clean, it does come with an annual fee of 450 dollars a year, but this clever little card comes with Qantas travel credit each year to use when booking Qantas flights through American Express travel to the value of, you guessed it.

450 dollars. Exactly, so if you’re a frequent flyer like me you won’t have any trouble using them and it means the card pays for itself. It lasts for a year, but can be used to book for future travel, so long as your booking is made before the voucher expires. What about overseas transaction fees? Good question. Well they currently sit at three percent of the converted amount and there is a naught percent per annum on balance transfers for the first 12 months, with a one percent establishment fee. Also the current maximum balance transfer is ten thousand dollars or seventy percent of your approved credit limit, whichever is less. So what can you take away from this review well the Qantas American Express Ultimate card does have a high annual fee. However, it offers a high points earn opportunity for the die-hard Qantas points collector. The annual Qantas travel credit is a useful bonus to offset the annual fee and let’s not forget those lounge passes and complimentary Qantas wine Premium Membership.

Which would really top this off as a solid card. It’s also worth knowing that the card supports Apple pay, Google pay and is included in the American Express local champion program. Throw in purchase protection insurance and don’t forget that comprehensive travel insurance then this is a great card for the avid Qantas points collector.
